‘Perceptions of Self’ is a series of analogue photographs created through a slow photographic process. Each is taken on a manual film camera and hand developed by Caitlin.
The photographs are series of self-portraits separated into four sections ‘Box of Fragmented Reflections’, ‘The Chair’, ‘Untitled’, and ‘Transparencies’.
Through these self-portraits, Caitlin focuses on how the material can be used and captured metaphorically to express how the artist perceives herself & her surroundings. The reflections, fragmentations & obstructions come together to reveal an illusive perception of oneself through the film photography medium.
The work was created for Caitlin’s class of 2021 Contemporary Art graduate exhibition ‘MMXXI’.
‘Perceptions of Self’ was displayed at the University of South Australia’s City West Campus from the 2nd - 17th of December 2021.
